ONE DIRECTION BAND DISCOGRAPHY

As of May 2012, ONE DIRECTION has only their first album Up All Night and which was released last November 2011 in the UK and on March 13 2012 in North America. Its standard set contains thirteen songs while the deluxe edition of the album feature two additional cuts of the band.

Collaborations featured in the album include those with Carl Falk, Ed Sheeran, Rami Yacoup, RedOne, Savan Kotecha, Steve Mac, and Toby Grad.

The album is produced by Syco Records of Simon Cowell. The well-known music producer had signed the band after One Direction got third place in the 7^th Season of UK’s The X-Factor last 2011. In North America, the album was released through Columbia Records.

Described as a pop music album, Up All Night features other pop sub-genres such as dance-pop, pop rock, power pop, and teen pop. As one of One Direction’s band members Zayn Malik puts it, the album is “anthemic” for teenagers, with lyrics frequently focussing on themes such as relationships, being young, having fun, and empowerment.

Without a doubt the most commercially successful song in the album would be What Makes You Beautiful. Aside from garnering accolades from music critics, the song also won Best British Single in 2012’s Brit Awards.

Up All Night Makes History in the UK

• It sells 138,163 copies, which is credited for being the highest sales achieved by a #2 album in 2011
• It was the fastest-selling album for a debut act on 2011’s UK Albums Chart
• In spite of being released just barely two months away from the end of 2011, Up All Night still managed to be 2011’s 3^rd biggest selling album for a debut act and 16^th biggest-selling album overall. UK Albums Chart tallied 468,000 sold copies for the album.

• The album took the top spot of Billboard 200 upon its release in North America.
• With 176,000 copies already sold in its first week, ONE DIRECTION is also credited for being the first U.K. group to enjoy a #1 debut in North America.
• The album also took top place in billboard charts of Sweden, New Zealand and Australia, Italy, Ireland, Croatia, Mexico, and 20 other countries.
• It has the largest pre-order sales for any single released by Sony Music Entertainment.
